/ DOCUMENTATION:

If you want to transfer ownership of a vehicle we will prepare all the necessary documentation on your behalf, such as the contract of sale, the Traffic Department’s form and our limited power of attorney. It is important to bear in mind that if the buyer of the vehicle is not a resident in the Canary Islands or if there has been a change of residence, a certificate of registration with the relevant Town Hall must be provided.

/ TAXES:

It is important to bear in mind that there are tax liabilities involved when carrying out any transaction regarding your vehicle.
You need to take into account not only our Agency fees and Traffic Department’s fees, but also the registration tax for new vehicles or the transfer tax applicable to second-hand vehicles.

We will keep you informed at all times, advising you of the cost of each transaction.

Similarly, when it comes to paying our bill, you will be given a legal invoice detailing the transaction carried out on your behalf which not only guarantees the amount you’ve paid but also confirms that all the taxes and fees have been duly paid on your behalf.

/ LEVIES:

Whenever you have to transfer ownership of a vehicle, we recommend that you request a vehicle background check beforehand. This provides important information about ownership and other circumstances, as well as revealing whether the vehicle in question carries an unpaid tax or levy or even an embargo or retention of ownership.

It can quite often be the case that it proves impossible to transfer ownership as the vehicle is on record as having a retention of ownership attached and subsequently the Traffic Department will not allow us to complete the transfer.

Another common obstacle is when payment of the IVTM road tax is outstanding which can make it impossible to transfer the vehicle. For this reason, we recommend that you provide us with a valid road tax receipt when you come to us with your vehicle’s documents.

We take care of all kinds of paperwork with the different official bodies like the Registries, Social Security and the Inland Revenue and get any levies lifted or any unpaid taxes settled so that your transfer request may go ahead and be processed correctly.

/ DUA:

If you buy a vehicle registered outside the Canary Islands and you also have tax residence here, you will have to process the DUA (Single Administrative Document) in order to complete the transfer process.

When you come to us it is a very straightforward process; all you need to do is bring your vehicle’s documents and the boat ticket you used to bring the vehicle to the islands, and leave the rest to us. We can also advise you before entering with the vehicle, if you like. Don’t hesitate to call or pop into our offices and we will gladly assist you.

Once the vehicle has been duly processed and the corresponding DUA customs tax form issued and paid, you are then free to transfer the vehicle as you wish.

/ PROOF OF OWNERSHIP TRANSFER:

This document serves as proof that a request for change of ownership is being processed through a Chartered Administrative Agency and it is essential to have one if you want to take the car on the road and insure the vehicle in your name. It is an official document issued by the Traffic Department and is valid for 30 days while the new vehicle logbook is being processed.
